THE REGIONAL ORGANISATIONS
Activities of Regional Organisations
An ICOM Regional Organisation
shall provide a forum for the exchange of information and co-operation between
National Committees, museums and professional museum workers in the region for
where they are established (ICOM Statutes, article 15 § 3). An ICOM Regional
Organisation may be created upon receipt of a request from three or more National
Committees. ICOM currently has seven Regional Organisations, created with the
approval of the Executive Council.

REGIONAL ORGANISATION FOR CENTRAL AFRICA (ICOMAC)

Jordan, Lebanon, Lybian Arab Jamahiriya, Morocco, Oman, Tunisia.
The Regional Organisation participated in the workshop on the protection of
cultural heritage and the fight against illicit traffic of cultural property
in arab countries that was held from June 2 to 4, 1998 in Hammamet (Tunisia)
and organised by ICOM in collaboration with the National Heritage Institute
of Tunisia and with UNESCO.
In addition, the Regional Organisation held its 2nd Annual Meeting in 1998.
ICOM-Arab also participated in a training workshop on museum management for
young professionals in arab countries that was held from 19 to 24 April 2000
in the Nubia Museum in Aswan (Egypt).
In 2000, ICOM-Arab held its 3rd Annual Meeting.

France, Germany, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.
Meetings: In 1998, ICOM-Europe held its General Conference during which the
new Board was elected. In 1999, ICOM-Europe held its meeting during the Advisory
Committee. In 2000, ICOM-Europe met during the Advisory Committee.
The interaction with ASPAC facilitated the exchange of ideas between the two
Organisations. In 2000, ICOM-Europe participated in the meeting of Central
European ICOM Committees and presented a paper on laws for museums and goals
of ICOM-Europe.
