.museum is a restricted
top level domain, with eligibility limited to museums and their professional
organisations based on ICOM's definition of a museum. With it, museums acquired
significant new means for increasing their visibility and identity on the Internet.
The
.museum top-level domain went into operation on November 1, 2001.
.museum is managed by MuseDoma, a non profit organisation founded by
the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the J.
Paul Getty Trust.
All information on . museum
(including ".museum naming conventions" and "applications forms" ) is available
(in english only) on the MuseDoma web site at http://musedoma.museum.
ICOM provides hereby some basic information about .museum and MuseDoma
(some are translated in different languages).
