This work contains the papers presented during the 8th meeting of ICOMON in Barcelona, in 2001, during the General Conference. The proceedings are divided into four parts. The first one focuses on the management of numismatic heritage. The second one, entitled "Exhibiting Monetary History", presents four papers concerning exhibitions organised in numismatic cabinets or collections. Under the title "The Museum and Society", part III tackles the subject of the relation to the visitor, and presents various educational programmes designed for the public of numismatic collections. And finally, part IV consists of the presentation of various research projects in the field of numismatics, such as a European project called Euromint; an examination of the new law known as the Treasure Act in England and Wales and of the Portable Antiquities Scheme and its impact on regional museums; an analysis of the introduction of the euro and its impact on money circulation in Europe; and research on erosion and conservation of current gold and silver coins in China.

Papers are published in english, French and Spanish.
